Pricing What You're Worth: The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything
You're not underpriced because the market is cheap.
You're underpriced because you're scared to say the number out loud.
I've watched this quietly kill more coaching and service businesses than bad marketing ever did. It shows up hard in the Creator and Hustler phases ($0 to $250K). You quote a rate. You flinch. Then you discount before the client even pushes back.
I did it too. Early in my coaching work, I anchored my pricing to my fear rather than my value.
Here's what running companies past $100M and scaling a trucking business to $6M in under a year taught me: Price is a leadership decision, not a math problem. Your rate tells the market what you believe about your own work.
Study after study on mispricing finds the same thing. Most mispriced services aren't too expensive. They're too cheap.
Fix the mindset first. Then fix the number.
✅ DO THIS:
1️⃣ Price the outcome, not the hours. A client buying a $200K revenue jump doesn't care that you "only" spent six hours.
2️⃣ Raise on new clients first. Test the new number on your next three leads before you touch current ones.
3️⃣ Anchor high, then go quiet. State the price. Stop talking. Let the silence do the work.
4️⃣ Watch your close rate. Closing more than 80%? You're too cheap. Full stop.
❌ STOP THIS:
1️⃣ Apologizing for your price
2️⃣ Discounting before you hear a single objection
3️⃣ Quoting a number you'd be embarrassed to repeat to a peer
✳️ The Operator to Architect jump ($250K to $3M) almost always demands a price correction. You can't scale a business built on rates that only work when you do all the labor yourself.
➡️ Same truth whether you coach owners or run the company. The number you're afraid to say is usually the right one.
What would you charge tomorrow if you knew the right client would say yes without blinking?
Underpricing isn't humility. It's a tax you pay for doubting your own value.
