What a Business Coach Actually Does (And What They Can't Do For You)
I have hired coaches who made me money. I have hired coaches who wasted my time.
The difference was never the coach. It was what I expected from them.
Most owners hire a coach hoping for a savior. Someone to fix the cash crunch, close the deals, and carry the weight. That is not coaching. That is fantasy.
I have built companies from zero, scaled a trucking operation to $6M with 27 trucks in under a year, and led numerous wireless retail operations toward out-performing expectations. I have also coached 150+ owners over the last 6 years. So let me be direct about the job.
✳️ What a coach actually does:
1️⃣ Sees the pattern you are too close to see. You are in the jar. You cannot read the label.
2️⃣ Pulls the real problem out of the symptom you are complaining about. Cash is rarely a cash problem. It is usually a pricing, sales, or discipline problem.
3️⃣ Holds you to the standard you set for yourself when you were thinking clearly.
4️⃣ Compresses time. I have made the expensive mistakes already. You do not have to.
This matters most between the Operator & Leader Phases ($250K-$1M) and the Architect Phase ($1M-$3M). That is where owners outgrow their own systems and start drowning in work they should have handed off two phases ago.

❌ Make the hard call you keep avoiding
❌ Fire the wrong person you promoted
❌ Do the reps when no one is watching
❌ Care about your business more than you do - This doesn’t work, I have tried…
A coach hands you the map and the mirror. You still have to walk the road.
The owners who win treat coaching like a gym membership, not a magic pill. Show up. Do the work. Get uncomfortable. Repeat.

❌ Stuck owners ask: Can you just fix this for me?
